Evaluating Student Learning in Classes Using RealTime Physics and Interactive Lecture Demonstrations
As part of a dissemination project funded by the Department of Education Fund for Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE), members of the UMaine PERL have been involved in evaluating the implementation of the RealTime Physics (RTP) and Interactive Lecture Demonstration (ILD) materials at schools throughout the US. These materials have been developed by David Sokoloff, Ron Thornton, and Prscilla Laws. The dissemination project is being led by David Sokoloff at the University of Oregon.
RTP and ILD materials are designed for introductory physics classes. Both are based on research into student understanding of physics. RTP materials are for use in the laboratory while ILD materials are for use in lectures. More information on the two curricula can be found here (link to be provided).
The RealTime Phyics materials are being evaluated solely on the improvement of student learning, as measured by comparison with standard-instruction classes.
