The point of most of these links is to
provide you with articles that don't usually show up in the mainstream
media. I lean left, and find that most right-wing media outlets
are filled with incoherent freaks who want to do things like
invade foreign countries, kill their leaders, and convert the
inhabitants to Christianity. I prefer to use my brain when writing.
For a progressive point of view about
a variety of issues, tune into CommonDreams. This site collects articles from around the
web, all with a specific agenda. Since I believe this agenda,
for the most part, I like reading articles here.
The
Nation is one of the better reads
around, and a journal that gets far too little attention. I don't
say that because I'm some wacky leftist, I say that because I
am a sane leftist these days. So there.
American Prospect
is a biweekly magazine founded as a progressive public policy
journal. It's great, and reading it while looking at our daily
politics is a worrisome and frightening business. Read more of
the articles
For three more mainstream media outlets
that show pretty much all sides of an issue, check out the following
links:
The Washington Post is on the Web, and a damn fine read. The price
of the paper has gone up to (gasp! oh horror!) 35 cents in DC.
Online it's free, and the coverage is great. Now that I'm not
local in DC, it's less a Metro paper for me, but the reporting
is great, as is the OpEd page. Sports are located at Washington
Post Sports
Nando
Times has a more conservative
Nando
OpEd, but a good news section
to find out quickly what's up and where.
Slate is a grab bag of interesting ideas, you can
find some gems in here. It's survived the online wars pretty
well so far (that's what happens when you have Microsoft and
NBC funding you, I suppose), but keeps an interesting commentary
running.
