Playlists?

My radio show playlists I include for the simple interest of the listener. If you're interested in getting more info about any of the bands listed, send me some email.

CD changer listings?

What's playing in the CD changer these days.... At home, we've found that 5 discs on shuffle can be much, much better than the radio. It happens far too often that seemingly incongruous discs lead to sublime little experiences that please the DJ in me and make me giggle.

April 99

  • Rather than put them up show by show, you can peruse the entire month of april on this page. It's relatively large to download, but that's your problem, right? Smirk. I've begun each of my shows lately with the Sterne song (from Stell die Verbindung Her) "Bis Neun Bist Du OK," which seems only appropriate for a radio show that begins at 9 PM.
  • 10 feb 99

  • Continuing my 99 spring semester schedule on the return trip, here's the 99 feb 10 braziliarabigrooveout. Someday, I'll be able to link to audio feeds of the show, so you can listen to them (as can I) later on. I'll have to figure out how to do RealAudio encoding during the show, though...
  • 3 feb 99

  • After a really long pause, the newest playlist from my show (with added comments about my state of mind for each song...) is listed right here for your reading pleasure. I'm still on an Arabic kick, but incorporating more drone, electronic, industrial, and whatever else it is that makes the most sense to my soul at the moment. (99 feb 3 show).
  • 23 sep 98

  • Here's the continuing fascination with dark broody drony music from 14 oct 98, though I should point out that it ends with a game of playing old Latino off new Latino sounds... lotsa fun...
  • 23 sep 98

  • The dark moodiness continues. I put in the playlist from 98 oft 7 because so many of the tracks are the same as on 23 september (I know, bad DJing, but leave me alone), yet the mood was somehow much darker, moodier, contained more modern composition, different filters, different timing elements. My comments continue to be a bit on the dark side, too, but that's the way it felt.
  • 3 oct 98

  • Portishead - Portishead
  • Portishead - Dummy
  • Morcheeba - Big Chill
  • Soul Alone compilation
  • Swans - White Light From the Mouth of Infinity
  • 1 oct 98

  • I'm spending a lot of time at work listening to music on the web. Best site for grooving out while writing a dissertation? www.x-radio.com. Highly recommended. And if you're richer than I am, buy their music...
  • 23 sep 98

  • After a long hiatus, the Return Trip is back on the air every Wednesday from 9 PM to midnight. On Sep 23, I kept track of the radio show on a Newton database, letting me keep comments about each of the songs as it happened. I've also gotten back to a more internal, emotional musical style, I suppose. I guess I'm jsut having fun with being inside my head. The music is going away from pure Latino or African danceability, moving toward slower, droning styles that contain modern composition, free jazz, ambient, that sort of thing.
  • 21 july 98

  • The radio show on the 21st may have been my last for the summer, if I can find a sub for the remainder of the time, while I go and work on my dissertation. The stress and all that got to me enough that this show was mostly quiet, long pieces, drones, ecstastic material, and the like.
  • 30 june 98

  • It's obviously been a while since I was here, and there was actually a lull in the radio show schedule due to trips and all that. In case you care, the shuffler at home has lately been on Woodie Guthrie, Leadbelly, banjo music, polkas, or REM, Dash Rip Rock, Nine Inch Nails, and a few other folks. Eclectic, but I'm losing the thread for telling you about it regularly as my dissertation continues.
  • 22 Apr 98

  • I'm posting another radio show playlist, something that seems to come easier than posting my disc changer list (lately, I haven' tbeen listening to all that much music at home, but at school, it's Neubauten, Morcheeba's newest, and Arvo Pärt. Whatever. Enjoy the playlist, I guess...
  • 15 Apr 98

  • On the illustrious tax day of April 15, the most interesting guy and all around great dude, Keith Rokoske, guest hosted my show. We mixed in all sorts of things, traded tunes back and forth, and had a fine time. The man challenged me in a couple of ways, playing Yes and Lynyrd Skynyrd on my show (I'd never, ever played them before), and making me find a transition from Melle Mel to the Foggy Mountain Boys (I used early Peter Tosh). It was a fine show, we had tons of fun. Read the playlist here.
  • 8 Apr 98

  • Once again, a radio show playlist comes your way. That's right, it's the funky extravaganza of fun and frenzy - guess you had to hear it to know what the hell I'm talking about...
