Beware - these are hideously out of date!!

Michael Wittmann's Album Reviews:
I have this thing about disseminating my little tidbit of information about the world of music. Most of this is related to the radio station where I work and am world music librarian. If you're interested then read the reviews here.

Magazines and Music Clips

Addicted to Noise is an excellent on-line music magazine featuring a daily gossip column, 45 second music clips in their articles, and video clips. Good reading, excellent writers, and a GREAT attitude about the net.

Mokum is a music magazine out of Holland that has mostly techno/ambient/rpm style music on its listening files. You need RealAudio to listen to it....

RealAudio is an excellent music player that's well worth having. You need it for Mokum and sometimes in Addicted to Noise.

David Bowie's newest single is a Web only release, coming in RealAudio, MPEG, and Shockwave versions. Hey, the future of the net music scene lies with developments like this, and it's no surprise to me that Bowie is first to do a Net-only release. Addicted to Noise has been putting out whole albums on the Web, month by month, so there's a lot going on in this area...

Radio Stations on the Web

WMUC is the UMCP radio station, where I'm presently a DJ on Wednesday mornings from 9 to noon. The show revolves around world music, contemporary composers, early industrial music, and free jazz, with a healthy dose of anything non-rock'n'roll oriented along the way.

WXDU in Durham, NC is my old radio station. I not only grew up listening to it, but I DJed there, too.

Northwestern's radio station is one of the best places to go and find out info about jazz and musicians in general, just a good resource, and it leads to a few good links...

Get all FM stations on the Web, if you really want....

Random and incomplete lists of Labels

Here are a few links to record labels....I won't say if they're good or bad, but it is the way to get totally biased and trite info about bands you like, if you know the band label. The first few are the huge conglomerates, so follow their links down into the relevant names (you know, the independents with distribution contracts, that sort of thing):Atlantic Records, Warner Records, Rykodisc, Bill Laswell's Axiom, Shanachie, John Zorn's Tzadik, Musical Brazil, Mr. Bongo, .... others will be on the way whenever I feel like adding more.....
